Art Frequently Asked Questions: What is the difference between a print and a poster?
Most reproduced images are considered prints. The "prints" category can be broken down into Limited Edition prints and Open Edition prints. A print is considered a limited edition print when the artist releases only a limited quantity of the print. An Open Edition print, however, is not numbered and is not limited. It is open, meaning that the publisher can print as many of these prints as demanded.
I would include Posters in the Open Edition prints category. The word Poster in and of itself has nothing to do with the quality of the image or paper it is printed on.
